The body of the baby girl was found in Jobra area this morning, said Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora speaking to reporters today.

As per CCTV footage recorded at the government hospital, the girl had fallen from her mother’s hands last morning and it is suspected to be the cause of death of the newborn.

The baby’s mother has confessed to have disposed of the body in a well after she died from the fall, Arora added.

The cops are, however, questioning the couple and three others based on the evidence gathered from the CCTV footage. They have also recorded the statements of the baby’s parents and other attendants at the hospital. A detailed investigation is on to ascertain the facts and scientifically establish the actual cause of death.

Notably, the father of the girl – identified as Jitendra Chand from Sunakhala yesterday lodged a complaint at the Lalbag police station alleging that their daughter went missing from the casualty department of Sishu Bhavan while undergoing treatment last morning.

Sishu Bhavan Superintendent Saroj Satpathy had also ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The baby had been brought to the hospital the day before in critical condition.
