Nabarangpur, Feb 21:
In yet another shocking incident, a minor boy has been branded with hot iron object in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district to relieve the toddler of his ailments.
Interestingly, it’s not a disari (local healer) or any sorcerer who has branded the child with hot iron objects. But, the father of the minor boy reportedly branded the seven-month-old to cure him of health problems.
The minor boy of Rama Ganda and Jayantibai Ganda hailing from Mahubhatta village under Jodinga panchayat in the district had fallen ill recently.
The minor was suffering from chest congestion following which Rama branded his son with hot iron object to cure him on Friday night. Instead of getting any relief, the minor’s health deteriorated.
The baby was admitted to Umerkote Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to district headquarters hospital here.
“It is an age-old practice here. As my father used to follow this, I also followed this. I branding him with hot iron but it didn’t work. His condition worsened after which we took him to hospital,” minor’s father Rama Ganda said.
On Saturday morning, an anganwadi worker visited our house and advised us to admit him to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the baby is recuperating at the paediatrics ward of the district headquarters hospital here and his condition is stated to be stable.
It may be mentioned that at least five such cases have been reported from the district in the last three months of which one minor reportedly died after being branded with hot objects.
