Baripada, Apr 8:
Belying the impression that the JMM had been weakened considerably in Mayurbhanj district in Odisha after its state leaders joined the ruling BJD in the run up to the twin elections in the state, very large crowds attended the four election meetings addressed by the party supremo Shibu Soren on Tuesday.
Soren addressed meetings at Udala, Sankhabahala, Bangiriposhi and Jamda, the four Assembly constituencies that fall under the Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha seat for which the JMM has fielded a candidate, and is also contesting in seven assembly constituencies.
Shibu Soren’s visit to Mayurbhanj district comes a day after his son and Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren visited the tribal dominated Sundergarh district for campaigning.
The senior Soren in his speeches said , the JMM is still very strong in Mayurbhanj and the party is committed to safeguard the interest and development of tribals and protect them against exploitation..
While leaders and MLA candidates of the party accused the former Odisha chief of JMM Sudam Marandi of ‘back stabbing’ and treachery and deserting the party to join the BJD, Soren chose not to say anything against his former disciple.
