Puri, June 2:
Shankaracharya of Govardhanpeeth Swami Nischalanada Saraswati today had darshan of Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Sudarshan at the snana mandap (bathing altar).
The seer was accompanied by some of his disciples during his visit to the snana mandap. He and his disciples had darshan of the deities before the visit of Puri king Maharaja Dibya Singha Deb for the chhera pahanra (sweeping ritual) before the Lords adorn the Gajanan Vesha (elephant attire).
The seer, who was miffed over the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA)’s letter last year to come alone without his disciples to have darshan of the Lords atop the chariots during the Rath Yatra, had refrained from having darshan of the Lords atop chariots.
Making amends this year, the temple managing committee decided to invite the seer to have a darshan of the Lords atop the chariots during Rath Yatra with six of his disciples.
The Gajapati King, along with the Administrator (Niti) of the Shree Mandir and other members of the committee, personally met the Shankaracharya last Tuesday and extended him the formal invitation to be part of the rituals associated with Snana Purnima and Rath Yatra in this Nabakalebara year which was accepted by him.
