Shahid Sporting Club of Bhubaneswar would felicitate two eminent Odisha coaches Jose Jacob and Nanda Kishore Patnaik with the Kamal Ganguli Smaraki Krida Puraskar, the club announced today.
While the state rowing coach Jacob will be felicitated with the award for the year 2013, chief coach of the state women’s football team Patnaik will receive the award for the year 2014.
The duo would be conferred with the award at a function after the Durga Puja, said Pankaj Patnaik, secretary of Shahid Sporting Club, in a release here today.
The award, instituted by the Club in 2012 in memory of the Late Kamal Ganguli, the famous coach of the state football team, carries a cash award of Rs 15,000, a trophy and a shawl.
It may be mentioned that Jacob, selected by the Union ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Odisha government for the prestigious Dronacharya award and Biju Patnaik Award respectively for the year 2014, has played a prominent role in enabling the state rowing team to win over 250 medals in state, national and international events.
Patnaik has played a profound role in laying the foundation for the state women’s football team that has emerged as one of the top teams of the country at present.
The Club would also felicitate former state Ranji Trophy player and retired IAS officer Madan Mohan Mohanty with the first Shahid Sporting Lifetime Achievement Award on the occasion, the secretary added.
