Dhenkanal: The district police today arrested Simanchal Naik, caretaker of a shelter home run by ‘Good News India Dream Centre’ NGO at Beltikiri in Odisha’s Dhenkanal where girl inmates were allegedly sexually harassed.
A joint team of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit had yesterday raided the shelter home after reports of alleged sexual abuse against the girls surfaced in media.
The girls have accused Naik and Faiz Rahman, chief of the NGO, of touching them inappropriately besides torturing them mentally and physically at the shelter home.
Police have launched a manhunt to nab Rahman, who has absconded. District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Anuradha Goswami has lodged a complaint against the shelter home at Sadar police station.
Sources said the shelter home has been operating for the last two years without registration under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
