Commissionerate Police busted a sex racket and detained eleven persons from a guest house under Nayapalli police limits Odisha’s capital city late on Monday night.
Among the 11 persons detained, seven were customers and four women. The kingpin of the racket, Sunil Meher, however, managed to escape, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, police personnel, under the direct supervision of the Inspector-in-charge of the police station, conducted a surprise raid at the guest house and apprehended the persons involved in the sex trade.
Police sources said the members detained in the sex trade were engaged by kingpin Sunil Meher, who has been arrested by the Commissionerate police several times in the past, but has always managed to get bail and restart his ‘business’.
Sources in the police said the guest house, located at Plot No N 3/243 near Gandhi Market in IRC Village, had been inaugurated as recently as Rath Yatra day. Kingpin Meher had hired the women. who charged up to Rs 25, 000 from each customer, from Kolkata and New Delhi.
The detained would be produced in a court here today.
