Commissionerate Police today busted a sex racket at a house located in Telugu basti under Saheed Nagar police limits in the Odisha’s Capital city and apprehended seven persons, including the three kingpins, all of them women.
Inspector-in-charge of the Saheed Nagar police station Deepak Kumar Mishra said on receipt of reliable information, a team of police personnel conducted a raid on the house and nabbed four customers. Besides, three kingpins were also nabbed from the spot for running prostitution business in the city, he said.
The IIC said Lizarani Marandi, Rina Das and Chanda Biwi, who were brokers and kingpins of the racket, used to procure girls from different parts of the state and engage them in prostitution at the house.
During raid, police rescued four girls and seized objectionable articles from the spot, he added.
The four customers arrested were identified as Sarat Kumar Majhi (24) of Tampal under Nimapada police limits in Puri district, Abhimanyu Pradhan (28) of Marichapalli in Kendrapara districts, Shankar Nag (23) of Raj Khariar in Nuapada district and Srinibas Mahakud (37) of Bhagabati Prasad in Nayagarh district.
In this connection, a case has been registered by the police slapping charges under sections 3,4,5,7 of Immoral Traffic Prevention (ITP) Act against the accused persons.
“The girls have been sent to Capital Hospital here for a medical test. A case has been registered in this connection. The customers and the kingpins will be produced in a local court here today,” the IIC said, adding the rescued women would be sent to a short stay home in the city.
