The Commissionerate Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a sex racket in the city after arresting three youths from the Kalyani Plaza apartment of the Hi-Tech group at Sundarpada here. Two women hailing from Kolkata were also detained for interrogation by the police.
The arrested youths, all of them from Brahmapur city, were identified as Dibakar Behera of Gate Bazar, Preeti Ranjan Mohapatra of Chandraprava Street under Baidanathpur police station and Chandra Prakash Das of Bada Bazar. They were booked under sections 3, 4, 5 & 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 and forwarded to court, Inspector-in-charge of Airfield Police station Rashmi Ranjan Sahu said.
“Acting on a tip-off, our patrolling team raided the G-6 of Block-3 of Kalyani Plaza apartment here and nabbed three youths, along with two women, from the spot. The youths were running a sex-racket in Preeti Ranjan’s rented room in the apartment for the past few months,” said the IIC.
Medical examination of the accused has been conducted, said Sahu. During the investigation, it was revealed that the women were charging between Rs. 4,000 to 5,000 a day from customers. The detained women will be sent to a short stay home in the city, sources said.
