Commissionerate Police in Odisha today busted two gangs of burglars and arrested seven persons including a medicine representative.
Police have also seized Rs 2.6 lakh in cash, 28 mobile phones and 90 grams of gold ornaments worth more than Rs 2.5 lakh from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Jagneswar Das (46) and his son Ranjit Kumar Das (20), a medicine representative, Pradip Kumar Sahoo (52) and Lilan Rath (35), who belong to one gang while Sarat Das (20), Jaga (21) and Sunil Das (20), are members of another gang.
Briefing newsmen here Police Commissioner Dr R P Sharma said Jagneswar, who used to be a driver of Public Health department and was an accused in the kidnapping and murder of Rashmi Ranjan Barik in Khandagiri in 2007, is the mastermind of the first gang.
The gang had decamped with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from a foreign liquor shop near Rajmahal flyover in the city during Durga Puja, he said.
“The gang was also involved in stealing from the house of an OAS official in the recent past,” Dr Sharma added.
