Servitor assaults devotee in Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri

A devotee was allegedly assaulted by a servitor inside the darshan hall of Sri Jagannath temple in Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri yesterday.

Manas Patra (40) a resident of Sailashri Vihar, Bhubaneswar has said that when he along with his wife and daughter was going for darshan through  Dhukdi Dwar, a servitor, barged into the room along with other tourists. When he protested, the servitor, named Chotto Pua aka Laxmi Narayan Mekap punched him on the face causing blood to come out from his nose. He has lodged a complaint with the Singha Dwar police station.

The police have registered a case and ASI Bhimsen Mallick is investigating the case.

“Harachandan Sahi resident of Puri, Laxmi Narayan Mekap, aged 42 years at 11 am yesterday, was taking the tourists for darshan when the Patra and family pushed in and he punched the devotees face, is what other servitors have said. We are investigating the case”, Mallick, said.

No arrest has been made as yet.
