Senior Odisha journalist and editor of Odia weekly ‘Rastradeep, Jagabandhu Mishra was conferred with this year’s Narad Samman at the Idcol conference hall in the city here this evening.
The award, instituted by the Viswa Sambad Kendra (VSK) since 2002, carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a memento and a shawl.
The function was graced by former DGP Gopal Nanda and the Pranta Sanghachalak of RSS Bipin Bihari Nanda, as the chief guest and chief speaker respectively.
Mishra joined in Rastriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1967 and worked as a Pracharak for seven years from 1970 to 1977.He was also detained under MISA for two years during Emergency from 1975 to 1977.
Presently, he is a member of executive body of All India News Paper Editors’ Conference, Indian Language Newspapers’ Association and founder vice president of National Editors’ Council.
He was a recipient of the Nachiketa award in 2004 from the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpeyee.
The function, presided over by VSK president Raghunath Pati, was coordinated by Sumanta Kumar Panda.
Gyanendra Kumar Nayak read out the citation while Haribandhu Praharaj offered the vote of thanks.
