In a shocking incident, a senior scientist from Odisha working as the regional director of Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness, a unit of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), was allegedly stabbed by a juvenile here today.
According to the ACP, Charminar Division, D Venkat Narsaiah, the juvenile, a pickpocket, who also appears to have been a drug addict, was chased and caught by a group of people near Charminar area. While he was running away, he bumped into DRDO official RK Satpathy, who was standing near the spot, and attacked him with a knife.
Satpathy, who had come for shopping, was immediately rushed to a government hospital.
His condition is stable and he is out of danger, police said.
The boy managed to escape but efforts were on to nab him, police added.
Ravi Kumar Gupta, director, Directorate of Public Interface, DRDO, said Satpathy was on a visit here and also that the attack on him was accidental and had nothing to do with DRDO affairs.
