Bhubaneswar, Oct 30:
Days after senior state unit Congress leaders’ Delhi tour for apparent leadership change, two Congress members from Jharsuguda joined Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
Former Jharsuguda Block chairman Prashant Patel and former Mahila Congress general secretary Annapurna Patel were inducted into the party in the presence of party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence here yesterday.
“I am glad that Prashant Patel, ex-chairman of Jharsuguda Block and Annapurna Patel, ex-state general secretary of Mahila Pradesh Congress Committee of Jharsuguda district are joining the Biju Janata Dal. I welcome then and their joining will strengthen the party,” BJD president Naveen Patnaik said.
Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) chairman Kishore Mohanty was present during the occasion. The duo is said to be close aides of Congress leader Naba Kishore Das.
“I am impressed by the clean image, ideals and the massive love of people for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Despite Jharsuguda district not having a BJD MLA, the government has initiated several development projects in the district. We have taken the decision to join BJD on our own,” Prashant Patel expressed.
“I have joined BJD on my own. I have accepted Naveen Patnaik as my leader,” Annapurna Patel said.
