Bhubaneswar: Odisha police today sought a show-cause from concerned officials hours after first batch recruits of Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) were seen abandoning firearm and taking selfie with children and others at the ceremonial ground here.
As the matter was reported in the media, it did not go down well with the senior officials of the state police.
OSAP ADG B Radhika was prompt to issue a show-cause to the trainers for the negligent attitude of the new recruits.
Soon after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik left the 7th Battalion ground post attending the passing-out parade, celebration broke out in the ground. The constables were quick to abandon the self-loading rifles (SLR) and inviting their relatives to the ground for taking photographs and selfie.
While the firearms were empty, it could have led to a serious mishap had the SLRs been loaded.
Notably, as many as 1289 constables including 203 women cadet passed out after completing a nearly 9-month rigorous training here.
“The police personnel are trained to religiously follow the instruction that under no circumstance they would part with their firearm. It is against the provisions of police manual and moreover penal provisions are also there. They shouldn’t have don’t that,” former state DGP SN Tiwari expressed.
Speaking on similar lines, a new recruit said: “I guess they got too much excited to see their relatives. In my view, playing around with a service rifle is improper.”
Worth mentioning, the passouts of OISF created on the lines of CISF would be recruited at various industrial establishments in the state.
