Bhubaneswar, Oct 4:
Adequate security arrangements are in place for the Ravan Podi event at various points in Odisha’s capital city including Sahid Nagar, Nayapalli this evening.
“Keeping in view the tragic stampede that took place during the burning of the Ravan effigy in Patna last night in which 32 people were killed, we have taken adequate preventive measures here,” said a senior police official.
To make tomorrow’s immersion ceremony of Goddess Durga an incident-free affair, the police have also made elaborate security arrangements, sources in the commissionerate police said.
According to the sources, 22 platoons of armed police would be deployed during the immersion ceremony.
To keep an eye on anti-social elements, the commissionerate police have installed CCTV at puja mandaps in certain sensitive areas in the city.
Besides, instructions have been given to all puja committees not to allow vulgar dances during the procession.
As decided, all Durga medhas in the city would congregate at two points- Sahid Nagar and Nayapalli.
While 22 medhas would assembla at Nayapalli ouja mandap, 27 others would congregate near Sahid Nagar puja pandal, sources said.
The immersion ceremony would be performed in two phases.
For smooth conduct of the ceremonial processions of the medhas, the commissionerate police have made one-way traffic arrangements along their routes.
