Cuttack, Sep 5:
The Odisha Crime Branch, which had taken the Jhiinti Trahi Achyut ashram head Sura Baba and his two sons on a fresh three-day remand on Friday, began interrogation of the trio at its headquarters this morning.
Sources in the Crime Branch said that the interrogation is primarily centred around financial irregularities, tax evasion and the money trail left behind by the tainted godman.
The interrogation of Sura Baba and his two sons—Trilochan and Biranchi— are being done in phases, the sources added.
The state investigating agency has so far seized Rs 2.54 crore from 18 bank accounts in the name of Sura Baba, his two sons and his family members.
A team of Crime Branch police will soon leave for Mumbai very soon to dig into illegal money transactions and land deals of Sura Baba on the basis of information extracted from him so far, sources in the agency said.
Meanwhile, Crime Branch has registered another case against Sura Baba for fraudulent possession of land for his ashram at Chhatrapur in Ganjam district and slapped charges under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 423 (dishonest or fraudulent execution of deed of transfer containing false statement of consideration), 476 (counterfeiting device or mark used for authenticating documents) and 478 (offences relating to property and other marks) of the IPC.
It may be mentioned that the Crime Branch police on Friday had brought the Baba and his two sons from Cuttack where they were being interrogated for the last three days and produced him at the Bhubaneswar JMFC court after the expiry of his earlier remand.
