“A group centre of CRPF would be set up on 235.54 acres of land identified by the state government at Basantpur on the Goshala-Chipilima road on outskirts of Sambalpur city,” yesterday Mishra told newsmen here.

He said in each Group Centre having five general duty battalions, the jawans will be imparted training to tackle anti-national activities.

“The new Group Centre, which is the second in Odisha after Bhubaneswar, will have quarters for the family of the jawans and a Central School for their children,” he added.

Talking about the Maoist situation in the state, Mishra said there is movement of the Maoists across Chhattisgarh and Gandhamardan hill range with one part of the hill range located in Bargarh district and another in Balangir district.

“CRPF personnel are being shifted from Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar to contain the Maoist menace in Gandhamardan hill range. More deployment would be made in the hill range if the need arises. There is perfect coordination between the CRPF and the Odisha Police in handling the Maoist issue in the state,” the former Odisha DGP said.

DIG, Northern Range, Pratik Mohanty and CRPF Odisha Sector in-charge Piyush Anand were present.

Earlier in the day, Mishra had visited Khaprakhol area in Bolangir district to review the Maoist situation.
