A preliminary chargesheet was filed in yet another case against arrested top Maoist leader of Odisha Sabyasachi Panda yesterday.
Investigative officer and DSP Crime of Baidyanathpur Police Station RN Barik filed the chargesheet in case number (809/11) six months after his arrest in the city.
Two independent witnesses have been named in the 29 page chargesheet along with 10 prosecution witnesses. However, the police have not sought permission from Central Government to book him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
A special squad of Baidyanathpur police had arrested Pradeep Mallick of Hatimunda area under Daringbadi block near the house of Dandapani Mohanty in Shantinagar area on July 21, 2011. Large quantities of Maoist leaflets and a four paged letter written by Sabyasachi to Jana Adhikari Mancha convenor Dandapani Mohanty was seized from him.
Pradeep was arrested while he was on his way to hand over the letter to Dandapani.
It may be noted that another 120-page chargesheet was filed at the Berhampur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court against the Maoist leader on Jan 12. Twenty persons have been named witnesses in the chargesheet and 71 items seized during the arrest of the Maoist leader have been mentioned in it.
Sabyasachi was arrested from a house in Bada Bazar area of Berhampur on the night of July 17, 2014 from the house of Chandra Rao, who is now absconding. There were allegations that Rao had close relations with Maoists, including Sabyasachi.
