Bhubaneswar, Dec 27:
Taking cognizance of the allegations by opposition parties against the ruling BJD on violation of model code of conduct, the State Election Commission has asked the ruling party to remove its roadside banners, cutouts and hoardings including those put up in front of government offices with immediate effect.
In a petition to the SEC on Thursday, senior Congress leaders including secretary of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Utkal Keshari Routray, spokesman Dr Lalatendu Mohapatra and vice president Sibananda Ray alleged that the BJD had not only flooded the city with its posters and banners but also brought thousands of voters of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation in buses and other vehicles to their party office on Thursday in gross violation of model code of conduct.
Claiming that this was a pre-planned arrangement by the BJD to influence the voters, they urged the SEC to take action against the party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Besides, the BJP also submitted a similar petition to the SEC and demanded a probe into the issue.
