Sambalpur, Apr 7:
Apprehending communal tension during the ensuing Hanuman Jayanti festival in Odisha’s Sambalpur city scheduled on April 14, the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders in the city.
The district administration has imposed section 144 CrPC in Sambalpur city to restrain people from carrying or displaying arms during the festival to safeguard public safety, peace and maintain law and order, said district collector Balwant Singh to the media.
He said since the city had earlier witnessed communal tension during the festival, the district administration has advised the peace committees not to carry arms during religious and other processions.
But the district administration has been forced to clamp prohibitory orders because leaders of Hanuman Jayanti committee have made it clear that weapons will be displayed during the festival as they have been in previous years as it was an integral part of the tradition, Singh added.
