Ganjam, Jan 4:
A two-member team of State Commission for Women (SCW) on Friday began probe into the brutal murder of Pranati Das, a control dealer, at Rambha on December 30.
The team members Smitarani Panigrahi and Basanti Das arrived at Rambha police station and had a meeting with IIC Ramakant Mahalik.
Later, they went to the Diandein road near the Panthanivas where the woman was stabbed and set on fire.
They also collected information from the local people about the murder.
Later, in the afternoon, they went to the village of the deceased and met with her mother and kin and recorded their statements.
The SCW team also had an interaction with the members of the women Self Help Group (SHG) in which the deceased was an active member. The SHG members told them about the harassment of Pranati by the Sarpanch Manas Nahak and his associates who were also threatening her on a regular basis.
They also said that the sarpanch had deliberately lodged a false case of misappropriation of PDS items against Pranati.
Based on that complaint, the police had investigated the case and found the charge against Pranati to be false, the SHG members told the SWC team and demanded capital punishment for the accused.
The SCW members, however, did not share more details with the media as the case was under investigation.
