The Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has directed the Odisha government to conduct an inquiry into the alleged suspicious death of a seven year old tribal girl in a school hostel in Koraput block of Koraput district recently.
The Commission has also ordered the state government to pay an interim relief of Rs 5 lakh to the deceased girl’s family, said a letter issued by OSCPCR.
In his petition with the Commission, complainant Dillip Kumar Das of Antodaya, a non-government organisation, had cited a newspaper report alleging suspicious death of a seven year old tribal girl child Lucky Sidika in the Mahadeipur Sevashram on January 15 this year in Koraput block of Koraput district.
Lucky, who was perefectly fine on January 14 had gone to bed with her friends, But the following morning, she suddenly felt unwell and was taken to the hospital at Koraput where she was declared dead by the doctors, said Das in his petition.
Taking cognizance of the petition, OSCPCR chairperson Sruti Mahapatra directed the Koraput collector to conduct a detailed inquiry into the child’s mysterious death in the school hostel and submit it to the Commission at the earliest. She also ordered payment of Rs 5 lakh to her family as an interim relief.
