In a comedy of errors, students of a higher primary school in Balasore district of Odisha wererecently told by their teacher that former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee was no more and even conducted a memorial meet and closed the school for the day.
The incident happened in an UP UG school in Badapokhari panchayat on Aupada block. School headmaster Kamlakanta Das, who was participating in a training programme in another school, reportedly called up the siksha sahayak and told him to close the school as the former PM had died.
After getting the phone call, the teachers asked the students to assemble for a memorial meeting where rich tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister. The school was then closed before 4 pm and students asked to go home.
After the news spread, the villagers and school committee members were shocked at the news and a school committee member called up the headmaster. The headmaster said he had heard the news in Kotagadiya training center.
After the news reached the district magistrate, a three member enquiry team of DPC comprising Surendra Prasad Sankua and BEO Dharanidhar Patra, CRCC Umashankar Nayak was sent to the school. The teachers and the headmaster agreed to the memorial meet and the headmaster has apologized for the mistake.
