Bhubaneswar, Aug 12:
A numberless Toyota Fortuner luxury car found abandoned in the parking lot of Apollo Hospital here for the last four days has now been found to belong to self-styled godman Srimad Sarathi alias Sarathi Baba, currently on Odisha Crime Branch remand and being grilled about a series of alleged nefarious activities.
Both Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma and Bhubaneswar MVI have now confirmed that the SUV belongs to ‘one Srimad Sarathi’.
“On being informed about the abandoned SUV, commiosionerate police verified the details from the Bhubaneswar RTO and MVI and found that it belonged to one Srimad Sarathi. We have taken the vehicle to the Saheed Nagar police station for its safe custody and would hand it over to the Crime Branch soon for further investigation,” the commissioner said.
Bhubaneswar MVI Biranchi Narayan Adhikari too confirmed that the vehicle belonged to ‘one Srimad Sarathi’.
“We were asked by commissionerate police to verify the ownership details of the vehicle. Since there was no number plate, we checked its chassis no and found from records of the RTO I near Vani Vihar square that it belonged to one Srimad Sarathi. Its regsitration no is OR 02 BH OO10,” he said.
The MVI said the number plate of the vehicle had been deliberately taken out. “There is little chance of it having fallen off and there is nothing to suggest that it met with an accident. The number plate has obviously been taken out deliberately,” he said.
Radheshyam Mishra, the chief security officer of Apollo Hospital said it was he who informed the police about the vehicle lying abandoned in the hospital parking lot. He, however, could not say when exactly was the vehicle parked there.
