Bhubaneswar, Mar 22:
A day after Odisha Congress workers observed Brahmagiri bandh demanding arrest of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma, BJD supporters today retaliated by taking out a massive rally and submitted a memorandum to Police DG KB Singh in Cuttack demanding arrest of former Brahmagiri MLA Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra (Lulu).
About 15,000 supporters of BJD and Das Burma from various places of the state today joined the rally.
Earlier in the day, about 400-500 bikers started from Brahmagiri this morning and staged an agitation and burnt the effigy of Lulu in Puri. Later, they were joined by party workers from Puri and an even larger group reached Bhubaneswar – where a massive rally was organised and Lulu’s effigy was burnt again.
The rally here was backed by Bhubaneswar BJD workers and party corporators. The road between Master Canteen square and Lower PMG was closed and security had been beefed up to avoid any untoward incident.
The massive rally reached Cuttack in the afternoon and party leaders submitted a memorandum to DGP Singh demanding arrest of the senior Congress leader.
“Congress leader Lulu Mohapatra himself has links with various criminal elements including now-arrested former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena and the D-brothers. We demand Odisha police to arrest him and probe his links,” said a BJD flag-bearing supporter riding a bike without helmet in the capital city.
Mohapatra, however, maintained his stand.
“I stand by whatever I said earlier. Why doesn’t he sue me, if he thinks I am lying? Let them register a case and I will see,” he said in his usual demeanour.
Notably, both leaders have been at loggerheads after Lulu on March 17 alleged that chit fund company Artha Tatwa (AT) Group has gifted a Mitsubishi Pajero to Das Burma.
