Bhubaneswar, Dec 17:
Parents of Sandhyarani Samantaray, who died under mysterious circumstances on November 22 after she divulged explosive details of a flourishing flesh trade involving influential persons before the Commissionerate Police staged a demonstration in front of the State Commission for Women (SCW) here on Tuesday seeking its intervention to ensure justice to their daughter. Members of the State Progressive Women’s Forum (SPWF) joined them in the demonstration.
The parents said they decided to demonstrate before the SCW after knocking the doors of all other agencies including the city Mahila Police station, SCW and Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) in vain.
The parents handed over a fresh memorandum to SCW demanding immediate action against the culprits involved in the ‘murder’ of Sandhyarani.
Stating that the deceased might have died due to poisoning, the parents urged the SCW to inquire into the matter and identify the persons involved in the crime.
Later, the Commission asked the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, the DGP and the Mahila police to submit a report in the matter within five days.
“If after five days the parents fail to get justice, we will intensify our stir in front of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC),” said SPWF president Mamata Samantaray.
