Puri: Internationally acclaimed Sudarsan Pattnaik today created a sand art to mark the glorious maritime of ancient Odisha on the auspicious occasion of Kartika Purnima.

The sand art featuring a Boita (boat) with a theme of the upcoming Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup drew a huge crowd at Puri sea beach in the morning.

The sculpture gives a nostalgic feeling of the rich tradition as well as the excitement for the mega hockey event scheduled at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from Nov 28.

Pattnaik created the sand art on boat sailing with an underlying message ‘Welcome to Odisha for Hockey World Cup’.

Taking to the microblogging site Twitter, Pattnaik wrote: “#HappyKartikaPurnima, Odisha’s glorious maritime past, My sand art, where the past represented by traditional “Boita” meets the present with #Odisha hosting the #HockeyMensWorldCup2018.”
