Odisha minister for Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Prafulla Mallick today said action will be taken against the contractor, who had hired the five labourers after a tractor overturned at Gumulei in Odisha’s Sambalpur district yesterday evening.
Six other labourers were also injured in the mishap.
The minister told reporters that the families of the dead and the injured will be eligible for compensation if they were duly registered.
It may be recalled that a tractor carrying 11 labourers overturned on the Old Ranchi Road at Gumulei under the Katarbaga police limits when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend.
Five labourers died on the spot while six others who sustained injuries were admitted to the hospital. The condition of one of them remained critical, reports said.
