Sai Model United Nations Conference, 2014 Inaugurated in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, July 25:

The second edition of the Eastern India’s biggest International Model United Nations Conference was declared open at the SAI International School campus in the Odisha capital today.

sai schoolOdisha’s Minister for Industries and School and Mass Education Debi Prasad Mishra, the chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the conference in the presence of Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar-North and Vishal Dev, Chairman cum Managing Director of IDCO.

The three-day conference with the theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (“One World, One family”) is being held to debate and discuss issues of global concern for which intervention of the future leaders is of paramount importance.

The Minister expressed his happiness over the participation of 15 different nations and more than 450 delegates from various schools in this international conference. He also congratulated SAI International School for organizing an International Summit in the city of Bhubaneswar and applauded it for the achievements and accolades that it has earned in a very short span of time.

“You are the future leaders of tomorrow and as the issues become more pressing, the nation will call upon you for solutions,” said Vishal Dev, while addressing the gathering at the inaugural session of the SAIMUN.

Chairman of the school Dr Bijoy Sahoo said, “The summit of International stature aims to bring a dynamic change in the thought process of the students by widening their horizon and giving them a chance to learn about global issues by way of researching, reading, deliberating, discussing and negotiating.”

SAI International MUN is bestowed with special distinction as it is a registered event of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and is going to be attended by International delegates of 12 countries which include Egypt, Brazil, Tunisia,  Bangladesh, China, Kenya, Singapore, USA, UAE, Russia and Morocco.

The seven committees of the MUN which come under United Nations General Assembly: Disarmament and International Security (UNGA- DISEC), United Nations Historic Security Council (UNHSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), World Trade Organization (WTO), Economic and Finance Committee (ECOFIN), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) will be discussing various issues like Global LGBT rights, violation of human rights for combating illegal immigration, seven-day war,the need for and risk factors involved in the trade of genetically modified organisms, Intellectual Property Rights etc.

The discussions and deliberations of the seven committees will take place simultaneously over the three days at different venues in the school campus, the organisers said.
