Bhubaneswar, Sep 22:
The central election committee of the BJP today approved Rudramadhab Ray as the party’s candidate for the Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha, which will go for a bypoll on October15, reliable sources in the party said.
The bypoll has been necessitated following the premature death of the sitting BJD MP Hemendra Singh.
Ray joined the party last evening in the presence of state BJP president KV Singhdeo, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, party in-charge for Odisha Arun Singh and several senior leaders of the party.
Ray, who was elected BJD MP from Kandhamal in the 2009 elections, was suspended from BJD for ‘anti-party activities’ during the 2014 polls.
He was said to have been canvassing support for the Congress candidate Harihar Karan after being denied the party ticket for the Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat.
