Rourkela, Dec 4:
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has registered its best ever April-November performance in key production areas. During this period, the Plant made 1.64 Million Tonnes (MT) of Hot Metal, 1.51 MT of Crude Steel and 1.46 MT of Saleable Steel thereby registering growth of 5.2%, 3.7% and 6.5% respectively over the corresponding period last year (CPLY), said a press release of the plant.
Besides, highest-ever production of Sinter (2.46 MT) and Plate Mill plates (0.32 MT) are two other highlights of the period. By making 85673 Tonnes of Galvanised sheets and 44826 Tonnes of CRNO steel in the first eight months of current fiscal, RSP also recorded growth of 17.6% and 0.4% respectively over CPLY.
The superior performance by many units of the Steel Plant in the month of November paved the way for this success. During the month, the Blast Furnaces produced 2.28 lakh tonnes of Hot Metal which is a growth of 15.4% over November last year while the Steel Melting Shops made 2.05 lakh tonnes of Crude Steel thereby recording an increase of 12.4% over CPLY. The Rolling Mills zone matched the pace by rolling out 2.1 lakh tonnes of Saleable Steel, which is not only a rise of 10.5% over November’12, but also the best ever figure for any month. The major contributors in this success were the Plate Mill that made 48,932 tonnes of plates and the Hot Strip Mill that produced1.58 lakh tonnes of HR Coils, the release added.
