The Engineering Shop of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has completed an order for developing the modified Blast Furnace shell for 8th course of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP). The order was placed by BSL thorough SAIL growth division in view of the expertise and skill of the Structural and Fabrication Shop collective of RSP, a press release issued by the plant said on Saturday.
The structure is basically a conical shell fabricated out of 12 segments of 50 mm thick plate. The total weight of the job is 54.28 Tonnes. Six segments have already been dispatched to Bokaro.
The diameter of the cone is 12.3 meter and height is about 2 meters. Considering the size of the job, it was planned to fabricate in 12 segments for ease in transportation and assembly at site. An additional two segments are also required by the indentor for their future use. The plates of the required grade were supplied by BSL.
Development and cutting of the plates, bending of conical segments, matching on the shop floor layout to form a full frustum of cone, edge preparation of all the four sides of each segment are the main challenging tasks involved in the job. The total value of the order is Rs. 27.68 lakhs.
Engineering Shops of RSP are not only catering to the needs of the plant through development and fabrication of key equipment, but are also readily coming forward to meet the requirements of sister concerns, thereby restricting cash outflow of the company. Recently, the Engineering Shops Complex has developed and supplied the complete INBA dewatering drum assembly to Durgapur Steel Plant and two INBA drum hubs to Bhilai Steel Plant, the release added.
