Bhubaneswar, Feb 6:
Independent MLAs Jitu Patnaik and Braja Kishore Pradhan met Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik at the secretariat this morning leading to speculation about the ruling party soliciting their support to ensure the victory of Padma Bibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra, the BJD backed independent candidate for the fourth seat in the Rajya Sabha elections tomorrow.
Emerging out of the meeting with the Chief Minister, Champua MLA Jitu Patnaik, however, refused to give details about what transpired at the meeting.
Asked whether the meeting had to do with the Rajya Sabha polls, he said he had met the chief minister to discuss the problems in his constituency.
“The chief minister had called me for a discussion. But there was no discussion on Rajya Sabha elections. You would hear about the discussion from the Chief Minister later”, Patnaik said.
However, sources in the political circles said that there is every likelihood that the two Independent MLAs would lend their support to the BJD-sponsored candidate Raghunath Mohapatra.
Speculation is also rife that the two MLAs could be offered BJD tickets from their constituencies in the coming Assembly elections.
