Bhubaneswar, Jan 28:
BJD party candidates Kalpataru Das, Sarojini Hembram and Anang Uday Singhdeo on Tuesday filed their nominations for the three ‘safe’ Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in the state.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik was present in the Assembly secretary’s office during the filing of nomination.
Master sculptor Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mahapatra has also filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate. The BJD is supporting Mohapatra for the fourth seat for which the party does not have the requisite numbers.
Former MP and IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal, the official candidate of the Congress will file his nomination papers in the afternoon, party sources said.
Reports said, a group of Congress MLAs gathered at the residence of the leader of the opposition Bhupinder Singh on Tuesday morning to sign as proposers for Biswal’s candidature.
Earlier on Monday there were media reports that the Congress candidate may not get the statutory 10 number of proposers (MLAs) in his favour because none of the party MLAs were consulted about Biswal’s candidature.
