Around Rs 5 lakhs worth of gold including ornaments, gold eyes, tilak of lord Hanuman, and cash of Rs 30,000 has been stolen from a temple in Girisola village of Ganjam district in Odisha.
Miscreants have also stolen the silver statue weighing 2 kgs , puja utensils and have broken open and looted the donation box which had Rs 30,000 in it.
According to the temple priest, Prasant Kumar Panigrahi, he had locked the temple at 8 pm on Thursday night and had gone home.
When he returned on Friday morning he found the temple door lock broken and the donation box empty .
Around 40 grams of gold and more than 5 kgs of silver worth Rs 5 lakhs has been stolen, according to the police.
The police is investigating the theft and looking for clues.
