Rs 40,000 stolen from city Sai temple

Bhubaneswar, March 6:

Around Rs 40,00o in cash along with the donation box in which it was kept was looted from the Sai temple at IRC village under Nayapalli police limits here on Thursday early morning, the temple priest said.

Police sources said the theft took place in the wee hours by unidentified robbers who broke open the main entrance of the temple with the help of a gas-cutter.

The temple’s priest Bijay Nana said  when the temple was opened on Thursday morning around 5 am for prayer,  they found the two locks of the main entrance broken.

“After finding one of the two donation boxes missing we informed Nayapalli police station about the possibility of a theft,” he said, adding, another donation box which contained the same amount of cash remained untouched.

The looted empty donation box was found lying at a distance of 500 meters from the temple.

Meanwhile, the Nayapalli police have registered a case and begun investigation. Search is on to nab the culprit soon, the police said.
