Bargarh: The Gaisilat police today seized Rs 3.20 lakh from two cars at Talpali square in poll-bound Bijepur of Odisha’s Bargarh district.
According to reports, policemen, acting on a tip-off, intercepted two cars heading towards Gaisilat from Padampur in the district. While Rs 2.5 lakh was seized from one car, Rs 70,000 was seized from the other.
The two vehicles were seized by police and the drivers were detained at the police station for questioning. Preliminary investigation revealed that the car, from which Rs 2.5 lakh was seized, belongs to a businessman and the amount was meant to be given to cotton farmers.
Details about the seized Rs 70,000 were yet to be ascertained till last reports came in. Worth mentioning, the seizure comes at a time when the model code of conduct is in effect in the district for the bypoll scheduled to be held on February 24.
