Cuttack: Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma today took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha.
Before assuming office as the top cop at the state police headquarters, Sharma was given guard of honour at the headquarters premises.
Sharma also paid floral tributes to the police martyrs at the memorial.
“Bringing transparency and transformation in police service will be our prime objective. CM Naveen Patnaik’s 3Ts– transformation, transparency and teamwork– will also be in our focus. Combating Maoists will be a challenge for us. Besides, we will strive towards use of technology to deal with crimes,” Sharma said.
Notably, the Odisha government had yesterday appointed Sharma as the DGP in place of K B Singh, who has been named as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).
The 1986-batch IPS officer was earlier serving as the Director General of the State Vigilance.
An MBBS by qualification and a law degree holder, Sharma, known for his cool and polite demeanour, had joined as Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack on August 12, 2013. He had earlier served in narcotics control bureau and national security guard.
