Bhubaneswar, Dec 1:
While the Talcher MLA Brajakishore Pradhan was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days for a host of charges including inciting violence at the railway siding of MCL’s Jagannath Colliery on Friday, questions have been raised about the ‘dubious role’ of certain senior police officials who are responsible for the escalation of tension in the coal township.
Talking to reporters on Saturday, Pradhan who had come to attend the assembly told reporters that a transport mafia backed by a top cop was behind all the trouble in Talcher.
Pradhan who had no inkling of what was in store for him, said he will meet with the chief minister to expose the role of a senior IPS officer who acts as the patron and protector of the transport mafia in Talcher. He also alleged the officer has a significant business interest in the area.
Pradhan also alleged the violence unleashed against the protesting retrenched workers and their sympathisers on Friday was at the behest of this senior official
Not only Pradhan, but senior BJD leader and MLA, Palalahara Rabi Pani told reporters on Saturday that a senior police officials are directly involved with the coal transport business in Talcher.
A senior ruling party leader told OST , “Unless the state government takes note of the allegations and orders an inquiry to find out if any senior police official is actually involved in the coal transport racket, Talcher will continue to be rocked by mafia raj ,unrest and violence.”
