Robbery attempt foiled; one injured in firing by robbers in Odisha

At least one person was injured when robbers fired at him in Odisha’s district headquarters town of Dhenkanal this afternoon. However, the robbers have been captured by the public and handed over to the police.

The incident occurred around 1.30 PM when robbers who were attempting to steal two wheelers parked in front of the SBI Main Branch at the Indira Gandhi Super Market here were captured by locals and while trying to free themselves, the robbers fired shots in which a local was injured, reports said.

Eyewitness reports said while the robbers were trying to free themselves from the grip of their captors, one of them fired a shot at Sarju Pradhan, a resident of Rameswarpur of Dhenkanal town.

Sarju who has been grievously hurt in the incident was first admitted to the district headquarters hospital here and has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated, local sources said.

A robber has been also beaten black and blue by the public, he has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here and is undergoing treatment. The others two robbers have been detained by the police and are being questioned, the sources added.
