A scuffle ensued between several Congress activists and policemen at Rajmahal Square here today when the former were proceeding towards city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena’s house in a protest march demanding a CBI probe into his alleged involvement in the murder of engineering student Asutosh Mohanty alias Rishi.
Many activists including National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) state unit president Itish Pradhan were injured in the clash with cops. Pradhan was on the way to Capital police station to record his statement in connection with the controversial video allegedly and purportedly featuring Jena.
He went to Capital Hospital instead of police station after sustaining minor injuries in the clash.
According to reports, the district Congress had today organised a protest march from Congress Bhawan here to the Mayor’s residence. However, the Congress activists were stopped by police at Rajmahal Square when they were heading towards Jena’s house to stage demonstration which led to a clash between the two.
The Congress workers later staged a road blockade at Rajmahal Square but were taken into custody by the cops.
