Bhubaneswar, Dec 18:

Activists of Odisha BJP this evening staged a demonstration at Rajmahal square of Bhubaneswar demanding resignation and arrest of city Mayor Anant Narayan Jena for his alleged involvement in the murder of Rishi Mohanty and a sex tape that allegedly features him.

Some of the demonstrators of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP, clashed with the cops during the demonstration after the security personnel attempted to foil the bid by BJYM members to gherao Jena’s residence.

“The allegations against the Mayor are grave. Ministers have been sacked in Delhi and Karnataka in similar incidents. We demand his immediate resignation and arrest. We were trying to hold a peaceful demonstration. However, the cops –under the influence of the Mayor and BJD—are denying us our rights,” said an agitator.

No one, however, was injured in the incident. The situation was swiftly brought under control by the forces.

In a related development, PCC President Prasad Harichandan took strong objection to the notice served on Odisha NSUI President Itish Pradhan by the Commissionerate Police over the issue.

“Odisha Police will not be able to conduct an impartial enquiry. They are servicing notice on the President of Students’ Congress.  This is unacceptable. We will intensify our protests against this in the coming days,” said Harichandan.
