Bhubaneswar, Nov 23:
The Odisha government on Monday urged Union Minister for Panchayati Raj V Kishore Chandra Deo to extend assistance under Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF) to some other backward districts and release funds already sanctioned under Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Yojana (RGPSY) in one instalment to expedite various projects.
Odisha Panchayati Raj Minister Kalpataru Das, who met Deo here today, urged him to release the remaining funds under RGPSY in a single instalment arguing that it would be difficult to spend the money if it is allocated in a phased manner as there are just three months left in the current financial year.
It is to be noted that the Centre had made a budget provision of Rs 9236.38 lakh of which Rs 3436.81 lakh has been allocated to the state.
Besides, Das requested to extend the assistance under BRGF to some other backward districts. The scheme is being implemented in 20 districts of the state. Deo asked Das to submit a formal proposal to the Centre in this regard.
