Malkangiri, Dec 25:
In yet another act of terror Maoists blew up the block development office at Padia under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district early on Wednesday, said sources.
Sources said a group of at least 50 armed rebels at around 2am today triggered a landmine blast after planting explosives in the block development office building at Padia.
The armed ultras left behind posters at the blast site protesting the anti-Maoist operations by security personnel.
The block office building has been completely destroyed following the blast, sources added.
Notably, in September 2010, Maoists had also blown up the block development office in Padia.
“Maoists have been pushed to the corner by the security forces and people are gradually getting disenchanted with their violent methods. As a result, the Maoists’ support base among the tribals has been in the wane,” said former DGP Gopalkrishna Nanda, adding, “that explains why they have been relying on violent acts to make their presence felt.”
A few days earlier, Maoists shot dead two persons, including a village panchayat ward member, two days after abducting them in the district. They had also killed the father of a sarpanch.
Maoists have also been targeting road construction activities in Rayagada and Koraput districts over the last two weeks.
