Kalyansinghpur(Rayagada): In a rare act of daredevilry, five youths made a pregnant woman cross the river Kalyani which is in spate on a raft made of bamboos to reach the nearest hospital at Kalyansinghpur in Odisha’s Rayagada district today.
The woman has been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Puri and her condition is stated to be stable.
According to reports, as the condition of the pregnant woman who was suffering from birth pangs worsened she was shifted to the hospital on the advice of the ASHA worker.
As the bridge connecting Purunabhatt with Kalyansinghpur over river Kalyani has been washed away in the recent flash floods, there was no other option than crossing the swollen river on a raft.
The ASHA worker has also accompanied the woman on the raft.
In Kalyansinghpur alone seven bridges have been damaged in the recent flash floods while one has been repaired on a war footing as its approach road was washed away.
