Cuttack: Action will be taken against Assistant Professor Alekh Kumar Sutar of Odisha’s premier educational institution Ravenshaw University as he was found guilty of sexual harassment charge.
The varsity’s disciplinary committee that was probing the sexual harassment allegation leveled by a girl student against Sutar found the charges are true.
The report has been submitted to the Vice Chancellor. The action will be taken against Sutar under Orissa Universities Act.
However, the accused will be given a chance to defend himself before taking action against him.
The varsity will not file any case against Sutar. If the student wants, she can go to the police, the university authority said.
The panel in its report said that there is prima facie evidence of involvement of Sutar in the sexual harassment case.
Based on the report, the suspension order of the accused will be in force, said VC Prakash Chandra Sarangi.
Although, the allegation made by the victim against Assistant Prof Sutar has been found true, the panel further recommended more inquiry in some angles to probe into the sexual harassment case, he said.
The disciplinary proceeding will be initiated against Sutar as per the Orissa University Statutes, he said.
A high-level committee has been formed to probe the matter as per the disciplinary panel’s suggestion, Sarangi added.
Earlier, Sutar, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry department was suspended after a plus three first year science student leveled sexual harassment charges against him by submitting a written complaint to VC on July 29.
