Rayagada, Aug 2:
Normal life was affected in Odisha’s Rayagada district today due to a 12-hour bandh called by the BJP over irregularities in distribution of ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
While shops and business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement came to a grinding halt as BJP activists were seen picketing and blocking roads at several places, reports said.
The bandh had its maximum effect in Muniguda, Gunupur, Bisamkatak and JK Pur areas of the district, sources said.
The protestors are demanding exclusion of ineligible beneficiaries from NFSA ration card list and inclusion of eligible ones.
“The state government has committed irregularities in distribution of ration cards and is now collecting fines from poor tribals by threatening them. The BJP will never tolerate this. The party will intensify its agitation if eligible beneficiaries aren’t provided with ration cards by conducting surveys,” said Rayagada district BJP president Shiv Shankar Ullaka.
