Odisha came back with a strong reply against the huge total by hosts Gujarat on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Group-A match here on Sunday.
At close, the visitors were 111 for 1 in their first innings in reply to Gujarat’s 479 for 8 declared. Resuming at their score at 287 for 3, Gujarat added 192 runs to their overall score.
Parthiv Patel, who was not out at 109, failed to add any runs to his overnight score as he was removed by seamer Basant Mohanty. However, Y Venugopal Rao went on to score a sizzling 177 laced with 22 boundaries and two sixes before being dismissed by Gobind Poddar. The tail-enders also made a fair contribution to their team’s total.
For Odisha, J Behera and Biplab Samantray got three and two wickets respectively while Govind Poddar, AR Sahu and Basant Mohanty claimed one wicket apiece.
Odisha began their innings confidently as openers Girija Rout and Natraj Behera put on 111 for the first wicket before Rout was out for 39 by JJ Bumrah.
At close, Behera was not out at 64.
