In a major upset in Ranji Trophy, team Odisha today defeated the mighty Maharashtra by an innings and 118 runs at a match played at Krishnagiri Stadium in Kerala.


Odisha bowlers bowled out Maharashtra twice on the second day of the match thereby registering a massive win.

Batting first, Odisha had posted 319 runs in their first innings, thanks to Biplab Samantaray’s 89 off 192 balls and Deepak Behera’s 58 off 85 deliveries.

Surrendering to magnificent bowling by the Odisha bowlers, Maharashtra could only manage to score 94 in their first innings following which they were enforced follow-on by Odisha. While Suryakant Pradhan picked up four wickets, Basant Mohanty and Deepak behera dismissed three batsmen each.

Maharashtra’s batting failure and Odisha’s attacking bowling continued in the second innings as the former were bowled out for 107. While Biplab Samantaray took four wickets, Basant Mohanty and Suryakant Pradhan picked up 2 and 3 wickets, respectively.

Biplab Samantaray was adjudged as the man of the match for his valuable contributions with bat and ball.
